明石〜鳴門連絡橋が紹介されていました。イギリスのHUMBER ESTUARY橋を追い越して
世界最長の吊り橋になりました。

吊り橋は suspension bridge と云うのですね。 　

WORLD LONGEST SUSPENSION BRIDGE OPENS:                                       
The world's longest suspension bridge opened in Japan Sunday. Built to 
withstand a magnitude-8.5 earthquake, the 12,906-foot Akashi Kaikyo Bridge     
link to Shikoku - the smallest of Japan's four main islands - with the biggest   
main island of Honshu. The mid-section length between the bridge's two massive 
support towers measures 6,570 feet, making it 1,917 feet longer than a span on 
Britian's Humber Estuary Bridge, the previous record holder.
